On the Move

Scott Avey is the worship pastor at Grace Community Church, a Grace Brethren congregation in Frederick, Md.

Oscar Chavez, former pastor of Iglesia Cristiana La Cosecha in Lancaster, Calif., has begun a new Spanish-speaking Grace Brethren congregation in Durham, N.C.

Andy Gannon has begun his pastoral ministry at Summit Mills Grace Brethren Church, Meyersdale, Pa.

Ted Rondeau hasRondeau TedTed Rondeau joined the staff of Grace Community Church, a Grace Brethren congregation in Goshen, Ind., as executive administrator.

Donald Shoemaker, who recently retired from pastoring the Grace Community Church, a Grace Brethren congregation in Seal Beach, Calif., has a new website, don- aldshoemakerministries.com, and is now available for a variety of ministries in speaking, consulting, and more.

 

At Grace College and Theological Seminary, Winona Lake, Ind.:

Dr. Carrie Yocum has been named associate provost. Her responsibilities include serving as chief compliance officer, overseeing the schools of arts and sciences, behavioral sci- ences, business and education, and facilitat- ing institutional effectiveness.

Dr. Jim Swanson has been promoted to vice president for academic and student services. His expanded role includes oversight of academic services, student affairs, athletics and admissions.

Cindy Sisson has been promoted to dean of enrollment management. Her responsibilities include admissions and recruitment, including oversight of admissions for The Weber School, and assisting with student retention.

Christina K. Smith has been named associate vice president of strategic advancement. Her responsibilities include cultivating new partnerships and building an expanded community of philanthropic leadership to advance strategic initiatives at the school. 

 

Kudos

Vicki Barilla, director of outreach and community relations at Grace Community Church, a Grace Brethren church in Seal Beach, Calif., was commended in a letter by Seal Beach City Manager, Jill Ingram, for her extensive work in the community following a mass murder in their community on October 12, 2011.

Katie Mueller, Katie MuellerKatie Muellera member of the Winona Lake, Ind., Grace Brethren Church, has written her first children’s book, Bella’s Birthday Surprise. Based on a true experience with her older daughter, Bella, the book centers on a special gift at Bella’s first birthday party. The book is available at amazon.com.

Four men have been recommended to their local churches for licensure in the North Central Ohio district of Grace Brethren Churches. They are: Dave Nicodemus, Dan Hermiz, and Matt Vosberg, all of Polaris Grace, Columbus, Ohio; and Rick Bean, Darby Grace Brethren Church, Dublin, Ohio.

In Memoriam

Charles Henry Ashman, Ashman CharlesCharles Ashman87, died March 21, 2012, in Winona Lake, Ind. He was a long-time Grace Brethren pastor.

Zane Bull, former pastor of the Grandview Grace Brethren Church, died on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, in Goldendale, Wash.

Ralph Samuel Burns, 91, Winona Lake, Ind., died April 20, 2012. He was a former Grace Brethren pastor.

Esther Miller, widow of longtime Grace Brethren pastor, R. Paul Miller Jr., died April 7, 2012. She was a faithful member of the Ocala, Fla., Grace Brethren Church.

Burns RalphBurns RalphJim Smith, son of Grace Brethren pastor and evange- list Bill and Phyllis Smith, died suddenly on March 28, 2012, in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Marianne Elsie Smitley, 84, Palmyra, Pa., died March 20, 2012, at her residence. She was the wife of Rev. Lester O. Smitley, former Grace Brethren pastor.

R. John Snow, West Burke, Vt., retired Grace Breth- ren pastor, died as the result of a skiing accident on March 1, 2012, at the age of 70.
