Everybody wants spiritual blessings, but I don’t know anyone who wants trials. How do you handle the hard times that life sends you? Where do you look for help? Are you asking, “Why do bad things happen to good people?”
Even Christians have troubles. Jesus told His disciples, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Christianity doesn’t guarantee a life without difficulty, but it does promise peace and joy in the middle of life’s hard times. How is that possible?
Men and women will always encounter the problems that are the result of sin brought into the world back in the Garden of Eden. But, it is possible to face life’s difficulties with peace and joy because Jesus overcame the sin that is the ultimate cause of life’s difficulties. Trusting in His death and resurrection that paid sin’s penalty brings the believer into a personal relationship with God, and He promises, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
